Message from Principal

Dear parents and caregivers

We were very excited to celebrate Book Week on Friday. This event is a celebration Australia wide and is a wonderful opportunity for our students to celebrate the joy of reading and storytelling. A huge thank you for encouraging and supporting your child/children to choose their favourite book character and dress up for the Book Week parade. The parade was truly memorable, and there was lots of fun and laughter happening.

This term we have introduced ‘CARES’ Catchup on a Monday morning. The Years 3 -6 Students meet in the under covered first thing Monday morning on odd weeks, and the Pre-primary to Year 2 Students have their catch up on the even weeks. Having regular catch ups is extremely beneficial as I get to know the students better and it helps instil our CARES values (courtesy, courage, accountability, respect, empathy, equity and service). Highlighting our values on a regular basis promotes kindness and responsible decision making among our students, and this can positively influence their behaviour and interactions both inside and outside the classroom.

It is the time of the year that my focus shifts to planning for the 2024 school year. For me to be able to determine workforce needs and classroom requirements I need to know if any of our students will be leaving to attend another school in 2024. If this is applicable to your family situation, could you please email the school  wembley.ps@education.wa.edu.au with your child’s name and where they will be moving to in 2024. I would really appreciate it if you could provide this information by the end of the week.

In my time at Wembley Primary School I have been really impressed with the pride our students show in our school by wearing their school uniform. There are many thoughts on why schools have a dress code for students but for me the sense of belonging that it gives students is a huge benefit. When students feel connected they are more likely to actively engage in what is happening in their school community ( and I know there is much more to this than just wearing their school uniform). I would like to thank you for being an active partner in building our connected school community. Together, we contribute to a nurturing school environment that fosters education, growth and well-being.

As a leader I am always researching and exploring ways to enhance the health and well-being of our students and staff. At times we tend to overcomplicate and we miss the simple things. Health and well-being are closely linked to laughter. Research tells us that laughing can reduce stress, boost mood and improve immune function. It also releases endorphins, which can reduce pain. Regular laughter can contribute to a positive outlook and better overall mental health. Additionally, it may enhance social connections and improve cardiovascular health, so I encourage everyone to find reasons to laugh and enjoy the benefits it brings to your life.

Yours in learning

Julie

Senior Athletics Carnival – Helpers Needed

We are still in need of parent helpers for our Senior Athletics Carnival on Thursday 24 August.

We mainly require helpers for the morning championship events- long jump, throwing, sprints and middle distance. These events run from approximately 9.30am to 12.30pm. So if you are only available for the first half of the day that is fine.

We can allocate you to your child’s group so you will be able to rotate around with them and watch their events.

If you are able to assist please or have any questions please contact Roula on drfelekis@hotmail.com.

Also, a reminder if you haven’t already done so to please complete permission and payment at your earliest convenience in order for your child to attend the carnival.

Thank you
