Digital Technology
Throughout the year, iPads and laptops are incorporated into teachers’ daily planning and teaching across the learning areas. With the support of the P&C, there is a 1:2 ratio for iPads in Years 1-6 and banks of iPads to access in Kindergarten and Pre-primary. Students also have access to new laptops in mobile trolleys. Teachers are skilled in using a range of applications and programs, which have been chosen to develop students’ creative ability, higher order thinking skills and encourage the inquiry approach.
Staff are constantly upskilled through whole school professional learning, peer observation, coaching and mentoring. Teachers use evidence-based practices including the SAMR model when considering the integration of iPads and laptops in their classroom programs.
With the introduction of the Technologies curriculum, students are now developing knowledge about how digital systems work and a deeper understanding of data to enable them to successfully navigate an increasingly digitised and automated world.
We are a NAPLAN Online school, participating in two years of trials and student preparation before successfully taking part in NAPLAN Online in 2018 and 2019.
In 2020, the school introduced Seesaw in all classrooms, Kindergarten to Year 6, as a digital portfolio for student learning and to maintain a strong home-school connection. Seesaw is used to showcase student learning to families, encourage student reflection and ownership and provide a window into the classroom via an online tool. The platform is also a valuable way to begin teaching students how to interact with others in a safe, monitored and closed online environment.
