Message from Administration

Dear parents and caregivers

Thank you to the 116 parents and carers who completed the School Culture Survey. Your feedback is invaluable to progress the school improvement agenda. The data will be presented at the School Board meeting on 22 October and following this, strengths and areas for growth and improvement will be communicated to the wider community.

Welcome to our new School Chaplain Aimee Della Maddalena, who has joined the Wembley Student Services team two days per week (Tuesday and Thursday). As Aimee establishes relationships and routines, I am sure many of you will see her out and about assisting students in numerous ways. See below for Aimee’s introduction.

How to access the services of members of the Student Services team: Chaplain, Aimee, School Psychologist or Wellbeing Officer, Nat and Taylor the wellbeing dog. Please see / email your child’s class teacher who will put in a referral to be assessed by the team on a fortnightly basis or contact a Deputy Principal: Natalie Mueller (K-2), Milani Grace (Year 3-4) or Jemma Bryan (Year 5-6) to discuss your child’s challenges.

As we celebrate Education Assistant and School Support staff Appreciation Week 2024, I want to take a moment to express gratitude for all the incredible work our EAs and support staff do. Their dedication, patience, skill and support play a crucial role in creating a positive learning environment for every student.

Culturally Responsive Leadership (CRL) Program

This week I will complete the Department’s Culturally Responsive Leadership Program with a three day on country experience with local Elders. The learnings and actualising underpinned by the Theory of U (open will, open heart and open mind) have been extremely powerful. Our future includes all stakeholders working together to create a school environment that is responsive to the needs of minoritized student groups, and embraces behaviours that centre on inclusion, equity, advocacy, and social justice. New learning and engagement in this change journey will enhance our collective knowledge and understandings and inform the WPS Reconciliation Action Plan and way of being.

Junior Choir

Congratulations on your performance at the Junior Jamboree at Churchlands Senior High School (CSHS) yesterday. The feedback was outstanding from those in the audience and music teachers from other schools. Good luck to the WPS concert band who will participate in the ABODA concert at 4pm on Thursday at CSHS.

Inquiry Showcase Friday 13 September from 3:30 -6pm

An event agenda accompanied with a map outlining where specialist subject areas can be accessed and special demonstrations will be sent via a Compass notice. Dinner is sorted! Burgers, hotdogs, chips, and a Woodfire Pizza truck with lots of pizza options.

The P&C Exec will set up an information station handing out flyers about the role of the P&C, the school projects they supported and the Year 5’s will host a cake stall. See you there!

New School Chaplain – Aimee Della Maddalena

Hi, my name is Aimee, and I am the new chaplain at Wembley Primary school (Tuesdays & Thursdays). When I am not here, I work at Waddington primary school as the student wellbeing officer.

I have a degree in counselling with a major in youth work. Over the last few years, I have worked in youth centres, mental health services and now in primary schools. I always knew I wanted to work with kids and at first, I thought about being a teacher, but I believe my calling is to work with young people in mental health. Whether that is through youth work, counselling or a school chaplain.

As your school chaplain I work to nurture the emotional and personal growth of our students. My role allows me to witness the incredible potential within each individual and having that privilege to support them. Whether it’s guiding them through challenging times, working with them to develop social and emotional skills, or just listening to them, my passion is to create a nurturing and supportive environment.

When I am not working as a school chaplain/wellbeing officer I spend my time with friends and family including my dog Sparrow, cooking, baking and painting. If you ever see me around the school campus, please come say hi. I will be starting Lego club on Tuesdays and Thursday’s mornings I look forward to seeing what these amazing students will create.

LEGO Club

Lego club is back! From 8:15am-8:45am, Aimee the new school chaplain will be upstairs in Student Services, near the French room, if you want to join in and build some awesome creations. Lego club will be starting this Thursday, 5 September, come along and have some fun.

In the spirit of learning and community connection.
