Message from Principal

Dear Parents and Caregivers

2023 has been a year full of surprises and many changes. Our commitment to continuous improvement has helped us to remain focused on the things that are important. We have reviewed many of our programs and we have worked hard to embed our CARES values (courtesy, courage, accountability, respect, empathy, equity and service) in everything that we do.

I want to thank you all for all the support and patience shown throughout the year. We have had successes and challenges, yet despite all, we continued the work that had to be done. Together we’ve learned much and shared many experiences.

We finished the school year on a high with our brilliant All Stars Concert. The students performed magnificently and the number of families in attendance was fantastic. A huge thank you to our esteemed music specialist, Mrs Kate Humphreys and the staff who volunteered to assist on the night for going above and beyond.

We are farewelling some of our staff who are retiring or whose tenure has finished or who are moving to new locations and positions. Best wishes to Ms Lee Masters, Mrs Louise Jankowski, Ms Milly Oreb, Mrs Narelle Clarke, Mr Jeff Cornez, and Ms Olivia Egan. Wembley Primary School has been extremely lucky to have had such outstanding professionals as part of our team and for the ones moving to new locations they will undoubtedly be a great asset.  We also wish Mrs Jennifer O’Malley safe travels on her around the world trip and look forward to her return in 2025.

We are also very fortunate to be welcoming some new staff to join our team in 2024. Mrs Michelle Dempster will be joining our Year 5 and 6 team. She is a highly regarded educator and brings a wealth of experience to Wembley Primary School. We will also be welcoming Ms Tulley Breman and Ms Casandra Knights who will join our dynamic team of Special Needs Education Assistants.

Our School Board has been a source of inspiration and a voice of reason. A huge thank you to our Chair, Mr Tama Leaver, along with our Board Members: Scott Crawley, Jeff Gidman, Chatarina Brady, Kellie Pearcey, Vimalan Sivasubramaniam, Rachel Clay, Sara Touhy, Lissette Salazar Rodriguez, Leila Sugden and Naomi Bell; and contributors (non-voting): Milani Grace, Natalie Mueller, Jemma Bryan, and Lee Masters.

Our small but dynamic P&C executive’s contribution has been sensational. This group has sourced donations from businesses, roped in partners and friends to help out when needed, taken risks, found new supporters, and given so much of their personal time so that our students have a supportive learning environment where all students can thrive and be inspired. Thank you to our P&C President, Danielle Clyne, Vice President, Susan Havlin, Treasurer, Abhishek Baxi, and Secretary, Lauren Barendrecht.

I want to express my heartfelt gratitude to the members of staff at Wembley Primary School. The administrative, support and teaching staff all work together to create an environment that is safe and nurturing for the students in our care. It is by no means without its challenges and often thankless, but the love and dedication that goes into every day is remarkable. I wish them all a well-deserved rest during which to do things that feed the soul and bring restoration to the mind and body.

On behalf of the staff I would like to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas and a terrific New Year. Stay safe and healthy and we look forward to welcoming everyone back at the beginning of 2024.

Kind regards

Julie

Library News

I can’t believe it’s now Week 10.  End of another fabulous year.  I reflect on the many parents I’ve had the pleasure of meeting.  Whether you’ve sought additional reading materials for your enthusiastic young reader or those facing reading challenges, it has been my pleasure to assist you.  If any parents would like to come in this week to borrow some books for the holidays, I will be here – so swing by. I would rather see the books going into homes rather than gathering dust on the shelves for the next six weeks!

Wishing you all a  joyful and restful holiday season!

PP3 Literature

As part of their Literature Based Unit this term PP3 focused on the book, The Rooster Who Would Not Be Quiet!. This week they were lucky enough to have the author, Carmen Agra Deedy, visit them via Zoom from Georgia, USA. Carmen was asked questions about the storyline, setting and characters.  Carmen told PP3 she had written 17 books in total and had worked with 15 different illustrators. Carmen read her most recent book, Wombat said come in, which was a lovely treat for the PP3 students.

Humphreys Dance

This Term the Year 4’s have been participating in weekly Humphreys Dance lessons. They have had lots of fun learning multiple dances including the Slosh, Muffin Dance and Progressive Drive. Parents were invited to attend the last lesson in week 8 and even had the chance to dance with the students!

Parents Parking

This is  friendly reminder regarding parking on the surrounding streets of our school.  We understand that at drop-off and pick-up times the parking on streets is very limited, but we ask that you are respectful to our neighbouring residents by not parking across their driveways.  Although you may be parking there for only a few minutes, you are restricting residents from entering or leaving their own driveways, and sometimes having to wait for parents to return to their cars.

Thank you.

Sock and Jocks Charity Drive – Thank You

A big thank you to the Wembley Primary School community for the generous contribution to the Socks and Jocks charity drive.

A volunteer from Dandelions WA came to pick up the donations and was very grateful for them. Volunteers will be busy packing a little over 10,000 backpacks of essential school items for disadvaged children across WA so they can have a good start to next school year.

Your donations are very much appreciated.

Thanks again,

Mrs Martino and Room 1 Year 3 Students
