Message from Administration

Dear parents and caregivers

We are almost at the end of a busy but also such a productive term in so many ways. Last week’s Inquiry Showcase was a real celebration of the learning happening in our classrooms and I hope you enjoyed spending time with your children as they shared their learning journey with you.

As I toured the classrooms, I was incredibly proud of our students and teachers. Inquiry learning is all about making connections and going further, past just learning content knowledge. The culture of thinking we are trying to build in our school was so evident as I listened to our students tell me about their learning. I could also see the Visible Thinking routines being used from Kindy right through to Year 6. For many years, Wembley has embedded Harvard Graduate School of Education’s Visible Thinking Routines into our programs. You might have seen routines such as ‘See, Think, Wonder’, ‘Tug of War’, ‘Compass Points’ and ‘Claim, Support, Question’ in your child’s classroom. These routines help our students to dig a little deeper with their thinking and critically evaluate topics and issues.

We also hope you enjoyed the pop up Art exhibition showcasing our visual arts program in the Undercover Area. The quality was just outstanding and I thank our art teachers Mrs Robyn Barratt and Mrs Jemima Heley for their contribution to the showcase.

Thank you for supporting your child on Friday, I know they were so excited to host you in their classrooms. I also wish to sincerely thank our Year 6 parents, Genna and the canteen staff and P&C for running the very popular sausage sizzle, canteen stall and cake stall throughout the afternoon. An extra special thanks to Dani and James Clyne, Cassie Singam and all the parents who organised the set up and helped pack down.

Keen2STEAM Churchlands Network Event

Yesterday, we hosted the second annual Keen2STEAM interschool event at Wembley PS. We had Year 3/4 and Year 5/6 teams of students from both Churchlands PS and Woodlands PS join us to engage in lots of exciting activities and challenges, all with an ocean conservation theme.

Dr Bruce Webber from CSIRO and Shark Biologist Amanda Elizabeth presented talks and judged the final pitches from our senior students. There was some incredible design thinking happening and ‘Shark Tank’ style pitches to the judging panel. Our students should feel very proud of themselves!

I also wish to thank Ms Leila Sugden, Mrs Sue Webber, Mrs Rochelle Stacey and Mr Jordan Tait who worked very hard on organising, coordinating, and hosting the event.

I am very pleased to confirm that we won Champion School for the Keen2STEAM event and also won the Year 3/4 division! Congratulations to all competing schools and every student who took part.

Public Speaking

Congratulations to all our Public Speaking finalists! We were so amazed at the standard once again. Thank you to our staff and parents/carers for their support. Giving our students a voice about the topics they are passionate about is so important. What a lifelong skill these students are developing.

Senior Choir

The Senior Choir will be performing at the Perth Concert Hall with a live band tonight. Here is a photo from Monday’s day rehearsal. “Chookas” (good luck) to our wonderful Senior Choir! Mrs Humphreys is so proud of the hard work they’ve done, despite losing 12 weeks of rehearsals at the start of the year! Keep up the hard work but don’t forget – “A good choir is a thinking ahead choir!” We still have rehearsals in Term 4 for the All Stars Concert! Be there or be square!

Canteen – Volunteers

Volunteering in the canteen is always great fun, and your kids love seeing you.  If you are able to volunteer in our canteen please sign up here

Colour Run – Friday 23 September

The WPS Colour Run will be held this Friday on the school oval. Year PP-2 will run from 1.40pm-2.15pm with Year 3-6 running from 2.20pm-3.00pm.

Please make sure you pack a white t-shirt for your child to change into for the run plus a change of clothes and towel for after the event.

The coloured powder that is thrown as the kids complete each lap is only cornstarch and food grade colouring. Nothing harmful at all. The colour will only be thrown from shoulder height down and each child will receive a colourful wig & sunglasses to wear as well.

Fundraising is of course voluntary but the P&C would love for those willing and able to, to ask their family and friends to sponsor them. This is not a ‘per lap’ sponsorship – just a total donation amount. The best thing is, as it’s pay a safe online platform, your child’s link can be sent to family and friends anywhere in the world!

This is going to be a super fun and colourful way to end Term 3, so please get behind this event and support your kids by cheering them on from the sidelines.

We do also need assistance with set up and pack down, plus throwing the colours, on the day. If you can help for just an hour, please register via the Sign-Up roster here

We know that Term 3 has been massive in terms of events and fundraising, especially when it’s a fete year, but please remember the fete is only every four years and all the fundraising the P&C do is to assist your kids whilst attending WPS. The iPad leases, sun shades for the playgrounds and playground upgrades have all occurred through the P&C fundraising efforts. Now we get to look forward to amazing canteen renovations which will see the canteen into the future.

The Fundraising Sub-committee and the P&C thank you for your continued support.

Here’s to a fab last day of term on Friday.
