Message from Administration

Dear Parents and Caregivers

Thank you for your support and engagement throughout this long, but highly successful term. Research overwhelming recognises the effect size that increased learner agency has on improved academic, social and emotional outcomes. It has been fabulous to witness the level of engagement and improved learning behaviours and relationships across the cohorts as the term progressed.

Our proactive P&C’s planned contributions to the grounds master plan will continue over the holiday break. Three shade trees will be planted: two in the quad and one on the oval, providing shade and improving the school’s aesthetics.

The Town of Cambridge’s survey regarding the mural on the Grantham Street underpass is closed and you voted for a new mural. We look forward to our students engaging in this project towards the end of the year.

School Board:

The School Board meets in week 3 and 8 every term. Annually we hold an open Board meeting and invite all community members to attend.

The 2024 open Board meeting will be held at 5:45pm on Tuesday 3rd September in the library. At this meeting we will present the school’s 2024 NAPLAN and On-entry data and report against the improvement targets of the school’s 2023-2025 Business Plan. We hope you can join us and develop a deeper understanding of how student data informs targets and strategy. Please note all data is de-identified and not individual student specific.

At the last meeting we looked at the P&C’s WhatsApp guidelines and reviewed the Privacy policy. Actions arising: the P&C parent group WhatsApp communication guidelines were endorsed, and a detailed list of Third-Party providers collated and available to parents on the school website.

School Planning 2025:

Reflections on Science – Year 5

The Year 5s have been studying the reflection of light in physical science with Mrs Webber. They were able to describe reflection by learning about its two imperative laws, used their understandings to reflect the light onto the target in their mirror maze.

Taylor’s Assessment

Our school wellbeing dog, Taylor, completed his annual temperament and school suitability assessment last week. He passed with top marks and will continue happily working at Wembley Primary. Taylor was assessed on a range of things including body language and stress, sound sensitivity, interactions with staff and students, classroom behaviour, walking in school grounds and resource guarding (ensuring he is not possessive of food or toys). The assessor specifically commented that he was very impressed with Wembley students who demonstrated they have learnt to ask permission to pat and to be gentle and calm. Taylor also received his first CARES award thanks to a student nominating him for showing excellent courtesy and respect while listening to public speaking speeches in the classroom.

Public Speaking Competition

Years 1-6 Students had the opportunity to present a short speech to their class, followed by semi finals across each cohort.  Students were judged on how they engaged the audience, clear articulation, with an informative topic.  The winners from each year level will present their speech at the next assembly on Thursday 27 June at 2.30pm in the undercover area.

HBF Run for a Reason

I am a dad at Wembley PS and also Director of Partnerships at PCHF.

The Wembley Primary informal fundraising team raised $2,395.

This support helped PCHF raise over $43,000 making us the 4th highest fundraising charity out of over 200 charities (double what we raised last year).

If anyone is interested in working together to get a larger Wembley Primary group to fundraise for the 2025 run, contact myself – Alex Harper via email:  alex.harper@pchf.org.au
