National Reconciliation Week
Room 2 explored this year’s National Reconciliation Week theme Be a Voice for Generations by learning about the recent campaign to change the name of Lake Monger as an action towards reconciliation. They learnt about the history of the lake and the recent actions taken to have it renamed back to its original Wadjuk Noongar name Galup meaning ‘place of fire’. They explored the importance of First Nations languages and discussed how languages are living things that connect people to Country, culture and ancestors. They skilfully drew this significant place in oil pastels, depicting its flora and fauna, and used outliner pens to annotate their drawings using Noongar language. Room 2 enjoyed learning about local Noongar history and the deep connections between Noongar people and the suburb in which our school is located.

Pre-Primary Bluey Lunch Boxes
Next Thursday, 22nd June, we launch a special, one-off, Bluey colouring competition lunch box.
Our box includes a healthy and delicious Chicken Slider, hand-cut potato chips, a sugar-free chocolate or vanilla milkshake and a too-good-to-eat, unique Bluey cookie!
These are only available to our Pre-Primary kids and pre-orders open this Thursday afternoon.
Posters and class communication will follow with more details including a very special colouring competition with Bluey and Bingo running on our very own WPS school oval – so cool!
Special thanks to our perfectionist cookie artist and incredible graphic design guru, both WPS Mums, Florina and Paula for making this lunch box super amazing!
Vegetarians Rejoice!
Our Buddha Burger has hit the menu and is gaining a lot of attention.
Featuring a hearty, home made protein packed veggie pattie, relish, fresh tomato, lettuce and avocado, it really is a comfort food flavour bomb!
We have also created a vegan version which received rave reviews of being so much more delicious than those from a local burger bar.
Available on Wednesdays and Fridays.
Volunteer Help Needed
We really need volunteers to help assist us to get the kids served at recess and lunch time.
If you can help, please even if it is just for 45 minutes to an hour in the mornings to flip pikelets, we’d be most grateful.
Please sign up here or email wemblypscanteen@gmail if you can spare a small amount of your time.
PP Parents, have you checked out how the canteen operates?
We provide fresh, healthy lunches for our WPS kids, following the health department’s healthy eating traffic light program. Volunteering a shift is a great way to find out the ins and outs of the canteen operations, meet new parents from all year groups and see your little ones at school when the teachers bring them up to collect lunches.
It’s fun, the jobs are simple and it’s also a great way to explore the big school for when your kids move up next year.
You’re welcome to bring a buddy and enjoy a coffee, tea and homebaked treat while helping serve the kids at lunch or recess.
Please sign up here or email wemblypscanteen@gmail if you can spare a small amount of your time.

Dads of Grantham Street (DOGS)
Wembley Primary School has a dad/father figure group called the Wembley DOGS. This group was set up by a WPS dad a few years ago, and since that time it has grown to having over 70 members on the DOGS WhatsApp group. A link to join the group is included below.
The Wembley DOGS are associated with The Fathering Project, and being a part of this group grants access to the resources that The Fathering Project (TFP) has on their website. They also send out regular newsletters full of great information, tips for fathers and the always funny ‘dad joke’.
The DOGS are also linked with the P&C who support and help facilitate DOGS events. This partnership allows the DOGS to run events with insurance cover and also allows use of the P&C comms and social media to help promote events.
The DOGS meet once or twice per term at the Wembley Hotel to have a chat and discuss ideas for future events. All dads and father figures are welcome at these catch-ups. Information will be sent out via the newsletter or through class reps. Next one is 29 June at 7:30pm!
Recent DOGS Ninja Event 10 June
On Saturday 10 June, the DOGS held a Ninja Warrior afternoon at the Perth Ninja Academy in Osborne Park. 50 kids and their dads/father figures had an great afternoon with a sausage sizzle before the event.
This activity was designed to encourage the continuing involvement of dads and father figures in the lives of their kids. Some of the dads who came along were attending their first DOGS event, and were really happy to be able to chat to other dads and enjoyed being able to spend time with their kids.
Upcoming DOGS Events for Terms 3 and 4
The next major events for the DOGS will be a repeat of the very first event we ran: Paper Planes and Pizza on the oval. This event will be held in the second half of Term 3 and more details will be released soon.
In Term 4, there is a proposal for an overnight camping trip to Dwellingup. This will be finalised in the next couple of weeks and will be an exciting opportunity for bonding between dads and kids, and also between dads.
The below QR code will allow you to request to join the DOGS group. At present there are over 70 dads already on the group chat. Please join up and spread the word with any other WPS dads you know.
P&C Family Bush Dance
There are just a few tickets left for the Family Bush Dance with the Mucky Duck Bush Band on Saturday 24 June. Get on Qkr quickly to snap them up!
Thanks to those who have already bought tickets, we can’t wait to see you there. Please make sure you pre-order your dinner via Qkr by Thursday 22 June. Choose from a pulled pork bun with slaw and sides, a delicious vege burger with slaw and sides or a sausage sizzle with a cup of juice.
We have such incredible prizes on offer in our raffles that we want all school families to have a chance to win, so we will be selling tickets in the week before the Bush Dance as well as on the night. More information on when and how to buy tickets to come via your class reps and on the Facebook pages.
For the footy fans, we’re lucky enough to have a Fremantle Dockers 2023 Men’s Clash Guernsey signed by the whole squad and the coach, as well as a West Coast Eagles 2023 Men’s Home Guernsey signed by the team!
