Message from Administration

Dear parents and caregivers

We have had a wonderful start to Term 2. I have had the privilege of observing students engaged in a range of innovative programs and teachers catering for individual needs using a range of impactful, differentiated strategies and whole school pedagogies.

As previously communicated, this week is a very busy week on the term calendar:

  • Yesterday, the Year 4-6 interschool swimming team participated in the WA School’s Sports interschool carnival at Challenge Stadium. Skill, determination, courage, sportsmanship and parental support was on show throughout the day resulting in great results for Wembley, who finished third in the championship behind Subiaco and Floreat.
  • Today, some WPS teachers attended the SSTUWA stop work meeting. Thorough planning and early communication to the community ensured a very smooth day with no classrooms impacted and all students engaged in learning.
  • Today, Parent Interviews 3:30 -6pm (excluding rooms 4, 7, 19, 20 and 26)
  • Tomorrow is our ANZAC service held on the basketball court beginning at 9am. I have asked all students to wear their official uniform, Wembley blue shorts and blue school T-shirt, or dress and school white or blue socks for this important event. Parents, grandparents and community members are encouraged to attend.
  • Tomorrow afternoon are Parent / Teacher Interviews (excluding rooms 4, 7, 19, 20 and 26) : At 12noon all students Kindy – Year 6 will be dismissed from school. Admin will be at the gates to ensure safe pick up. The interviews begin at 12:30pm.
  • Thursday – ANZAC Day public Holliday
  • Friday – School Development Day (student free). Staff will be engaging in a range of professional learning, including Trauma Informed Practice and Values Education.

The WPS School Board welcomes newly elected members Leila Sugden and Shona Gilfillan staff representatives, and parent representatives, Dan Madden, Leon Kroep and Beth Catalano. Tama Leaver remains Chairperson and Board Vice Chair is Jeff Gidman. The next meeting will be held on Tuesday, 30 April at 5:45pm.

Planning Focus: Creating a Safe Learning Environment:

WPS teachers are committed to creating safe, caring, inclusive, and culturally responsive learning environments that promote learning, collaboration, and inclusivity. Over the duration of the last two Business Plans we have aspired to create an authentic learning environment, one that supports students to develop, while embracing their identities and strengths. To meet the diverse learning needs of students, environments need to be flexible, adaptive and co-designed to maximise learning both inside and outside the classroom.

Whilst teachers and students design the internal environments, the School Board, P&C and staff collaborate to respond to the needs of students in the external design. The WPS Master Grounds Plan, currently in draft, aims to build upon the amazing work already completed to capture to key components, creating cultural safety, developing a sense of belonging and empowering student agency in learning, engagement, and positive behaviour.  Thank you to our wonderful P&C Committee for their generous donation towards the new seating around the trees on the oval.

We look forward to sharing our plans with the community this term.

In the spirit of learning,

Donna Snow

Principal

Chaplain’s Corner

Hi Parents and Caregivers,

Welcome back to Term 2.

It has been lovely seeing the kids smiling faces around the school on Monday. I have enjoyed hearing what students did over the holidays.

Lego will continue to be on Monday mornings in PP4 at 8:10am until 8:35am. There is no need to sign up. All are welcome. I do walk kids to their classrooms post Lego session if they feel they would like company to the classroom.

If parents are wanting to refer their children to see me, we are implementing a new triage system as my days are limited. Please report to your child’s classroom teachers with the reasoning for the referral and we will aim to get back to you as soon as possible.

Many thanks,

Alessia
