Spotlight on Maths

Students who attend Maths Enrichment in Years 3 and 4 have competed in the Australasian Problem Solving Mathematical Olympiads (APSMO) Maths Explorer Contest. There were 4 rounds and each had 5 challenging problem solving questions. Students worked in teams of 3 and each team did exceptionally well for their very first attempt at this contest.

The following students were awarded:

Heidi M and Evie W for great teamwork.

Edward B for fantastic overall improvement throughout the competition.

Theo T and Hoomaan M came second overall with a score of 19 out of 20.

Liam H was the highest scoring student in Year 3 with 20 out of 20.

Agatha C S, Joel T, Toby W, Amy Z, Aedan Y and Jerry Q were the highest scoring students in Year 4 with 19 out of 20.

Years 5 and 6 Maths Enrichment students participated in the APSMO Maths Junior Olympiad in Terms 2 and 3. The format was the same as the Explorer contest however, in this competition, students competed individually.

The following students were awarded:

Ari G and Annika K for outstanding effort and improvement.

Scoring in the top 25%

William W, Jasmin S, Dylan H, Harrison H, Tyler S, Matheson H, Claire T, Lachlan F, Ashton D, Jennie T, Hugh D and Aryan N.

Scoring in the top 10%

Tarinee V, Jeremy J, Sharonnoy H, Rachel L, Zuriel L and Veer K.

The highest scoring student in Year 5 was Joshua S.

The highest scoring students in Year 6 were Ben T and Daniel J.

The Year 6 Maths Enrichment students scored in the top 25% out of all of the teams that entered the competition in Australia and Asia. Congratulations!

Bebras- A computational thinking challenge run by CSIRO which engages Years 3-6 students in fun problem-solving activities.

Year 3

The following students scored a High Distinction in Round 2 of the challenge:

Hoomaan M, Henry SJ, Lucien M, Theo T, Niranjana M, Rose L, Liam H, Ella R, Jess R, Elliott R, Leah K, Heidi M, Martin H, Raffael V, Johnny H and Elijah T.

Congratulations to Ujjaini S and Maya S on scoring 135 out of 135, in the first and second round, placing them on the Bebras Honour Roll.

Years 4, 5 and 6

The following students scored a High Distinction in Round 2 of the challenge:

Eashan S, Harry B, Agatha C S, Joel T, Amy Z, Isaac T, Will T, Noah K, Veer K, Flynn L, Amelia M, Tarinee V, Jasmin S, Asher N, Hannah Y, James K, and Jeremy J.

Congratulations to Ben T and Daniel J for 135 out of 135 and placing on the Honour Roll.

Congratulations to Lyla G, Isaac T and Samantha E on scoring 135 out of 135, in the first and second round, placing them on the Bebras Honour Roll.
