Message from the Executive Administration Team
Dear Parents and Caregivers
Telethon 2020 is just around the corner, and this morning the Senior Choir performed at Herdsman Lake. The performance was recorded by Channel 7 and will be part of a Telethon virtual choir along with numerous other schools. Felicity, Year 6, was chosen as the soloist to end the entire Telethon performance! Miss Goyder reported, “The Senior Choir are looking forward to being famous!”
Engagement and Partnerships:

It was wonderful to see the huge community support for our colourful, action packed Junior Faction Carnival last Wednesday. All students in K-2 enjoyed their running races and the PP-2 students engaged in a range of tabloid activities which provided them with an opportunity to work as part of a team, hone their throwing, catching, jumping and movement skills and challenge their inner competitiveness. Thank you to our super PE teachers, ECE/Junior Primary staff and all parent volunteers for their efforts in ensuring the carnival was a great success.
Teaching and Learning:
Science Week is next week and Mrs Webber and Miss Doig have a plethora of engaging activities organised during class time and lunch times including:
- Year 1/2 Kahoot Science quiz and Minibeast Outdoor Hunt Activity
- Year 3/4 Kahoot Science quiz and Minibeast Life Cycle Outdoor Hunt Activity
- Year 5/6 Deep Blue Escape Room Activity (Stile Education)
- Water Bottle Rocket Launch on oval – Monday and Friday
- Meet the Scientists – Dr Asha Bowen and Telethon Kids Institute Researchers
- Science experiment demonstrations during break times and before school by Year 5/6 Scientists
2020 Rotary Cambridge Primary Schools’ Speaking Competition was held last Wednesday evening. Wembley, Floreat Park and Kapinara Primary Schools competed. Miss Cox coached three outstanding WPS ambassadors; Jacob Holmes, Ella Teh and Ben Jacobs, all who represented us with outstanding speeches. Congratulations to Jacob who was runner-up with his speech ‘Music’.
Safety and wellbeing is the absolute priority for WPS and schools across Western Australia. Last night, Channel 7s’ Flashpoint explored the challenges of cyber safety for both parents and teachers. Minister Ellery was interviewed and gave her opinion of a cyber safety app called Beacon which has been developed locally by the Telethon Kids Institute. You can watch the program to find out more.
Planning 2021:
In order to effectively plan the school structure for the 2021 school year, we request that you notify us, via email: wembley.ps@education.wa.edu.au if your child/children will not be returning to WPS in 2021.
Based on current, predicted numbers, funding and available classrooms in the 2021 structure will likely include composite classes in Kindergarten & Pre-primary, Years 2 and 3 and Years 4 and 5.
Don’t forget tomorrow the canteen will celebrate the fabulous French cuisine with a special recess menu!
Collaborate, Connect, Communicate.
Yours in learning
